I just love going to events where women come together and do something for themselves.
I love talking to the women who have never done a triathlon and have come out for the first time. What a trill and joy it is to see women of all ages, physical abilites, and shapes and sizes acomplishing a goal they set for themselves.

We talked with women who said they were there to support a friend, daughter, or Mom. Some of them said they "would never be able to do a triathlon in a million years before this." The sport of triathlon is sometimes misleading only beacuse some have it in thier mind that it is too hard, takes to much time training, too much disiplne, you name it; we have heard it all.

The real meal deal is that it just takes the want to and some training. The sprint courses are not like what you see on TV. They are usually a 300 to 500 meter swim ( most of which are pool swims where you can touch the bottom of the pool and walk if you need to), 13 to 18 mile bike ride and then a 5k ( believe me when I tell you that a lot of people walk/run the 5k).

I have seen 12 year old girls to 80 year old women do these races. I have seen women that weigh well over 250 lbs. do these races, I have seen women that are physically handicap do these races. I saw a women this weekend that pulled her niece in a raft in the open water swim, then pulled her on the bike in the bike portion and run with her in a jogger for the run. Her niece is not able to physically do it for herself but as "Team Ellis" they are one. What an amazing team and spirit.

The real reason you do these kind of events is not for someone else but for your own spirit and desires for a healthier life.

Just remember what it was like when you were a kid and had no fears, only an innoncent spirit of adventure. It is still there.
